We also saw three mountain goats playing in the snow.
Very fun day - even though bed time did not come until a little after 11:00. Have we mentioned that it does not get dark till after 10:00?
Notes from Tom: Another relatively easy day. 85 or so miles with some up and down but no big climbs. The weather was nice, sunny, and not much wind. As we were riding into Kalispell, I told Jerry "this is what biking across Montana should look like."
After we got to Columbia Falls, the weather dictated our plans. Rain was predicted for Tuesday and we were worried about not being able to see the scenery in Glacier National Park if it rained on Tuesday. Instead of packing it in and going to our B and B for the night, we decided to drive the Going to the Sun Road while it was sunny. What a great decision. If you haven't been to Glacier on that road, we can't possibly describe it adequately. If you have been there, we don't need to describe it. It was AWESOME. Being a dyed in the wool mountain person, I was overwhelmed by the spectacular mountains in Glacier.
We had a late dinner and Patty missed her 9:00 bedtime by at least two hours...but, it was worth it.
Notes from Jerry: Tom forgot to tell you that Patty got a B&B with a great couple who have 30 acres outside of Whitefish with many horses (boarding several friends and neighbors horses). We missed having dinner with them as originally planned to get up onto the going to the sun road while it was so pretty. It was worth it because the sightseeing was beyond belief in Glacier. We saw more fun wildlife including a weasel, mountain goats and the sheep that Patty got real close to, up on top of Logan Pass . We packed in a lot for one day and decided that riding down from the top was not a high priority and made the most of the incredible scenery, since we knew that tomorrow would rain. Rain or shine we will ride the pass tomorrow.
Thank you for the terrific commentaries, all three of you, and the photos are super (Patty, of National Geo quality). Karen says thanks for the (CSU) Ram photo, especially after the Trojans of Troy. Happy 4th-of-July (what a 4th to remember) ,,,,,,,,,, Schmidt
